Day 7 - A character you think is misunderstood → Regina Mills / Evil Queen
I think that Regina is a character that’s misunderstood. They all think she’s very evil but she just doesn’t know how to act and feels very lonely. She lost Daniel and that broke her heart. She’s mean but she also want a happy ending for herself and Henry.
“I don’t know how to love very well”

This breaks my heart. Despite everything she’s been put through, Regina has always loved her mother desperately. Even when she tried to have her killed, it was almost Regina’s last attempt at making her proud by getting rid of her biggest “weakness” like Cora always told her to.
So here she is, finally hearing her mother say those three words she would have done just about anything for as a child. She starts to shake her head because she doesn’t want to believe them, because now that she’s trying to redeem herself, Regina doesn’t want to get sucked back in. She knows Cora will probably only hurt her again. It seems like she’s changed by saying this to Regina, but not really. All the pain she caused Regina before was her way of showing her love, and now, when it seems she wants to show it again, she still causes Regina the pain of losing everyone. She still tries to break her daughter, because that’s the only way she knows how to show her love. To truly change, Cora will need to learn to love Regina without breaking her down first, and until then, I don’t think any bridges can be mended.
Regina sees that this time, though, and now the words she always wanted to hear just seem like an echo of the fact that her mother hasn’t actually changed a bit. However, because she’s felt the hurt from Henry and all she’s done to fix things for him, she desperately wants to offer Cora the chance to do the same with her.
